Sorry guys, I got 3dmax5 and gmax, too. Already install on MDT.
What I mean is to start from the beginning an object. Example: house.

Since its a ripped down version from the net, I presume its got to do with having a valid version. Heres the error:

Failed to install safecast anchor service.
THe error returned was 1001.

From my searches on this issue, all versions max before max9 dont work with win 7 or vista.

Im just looking for any version of max that works with the battlefield tools script on a win 7 platform. I have the scrip in my max 2009 version but it has errors everytime i try and use it.

Senshi:

I tried using your files in the root and they did not work for me. Perhaps they do on xp but not win 7.

All works fine on Win7. I use Win7 since ages myself, and I use Max7 on Win7.
The only thing I had to fix was the dds plugin, without this fix you can't read dds files in max7. But that's all.

Maybe you got simple UAC/Admin right issues?

So I went back and installed Max 7 and reinstalled the MDT 2.75 designed for that version of max and the import works a treat now - thanks everyone for your guidance.

However, can i get some help on that .dds issue. When I go to add the texture file through the material editor in max to the mesh i get the following error:

Ok found the fix:

goto C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3dsMax7\stdplugs\dxplugins and move both

dds.bmi
dxDDS.bmi

to

C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3dsMax7\stdplugs\

then when 3dsmax starts it gives a couple pop ups complaining but everything works fine.

I found that I had to "copy" the plugins to the new location. Don't move them. Max will complain about duplicate class IDs on startup (just press yes/no on the dialog and click ok on the next dialog it displays after it finishes loading) but it will work. Though I have not gotten transparency to work in the view port, at least the textures load. ;)

I usually just convert the DDS into a JPG image using Photoshop CS5.
But I guess your way makes things shorter and more convenient.

I actually found an old copy of Windows XP here in my room, no Service Packs on it, version 2002 it says on it :D

So I installed it in VirtualBox (no hassle from floppy drive requirement) and now write this inside VirtualBox with Windows XP :D (now, all that remains is to install 3ds Max 6.

Use Max 7 or Max 2012 or whatever version you are most comfy with, really. I have started rewriting the 3ds max plugins so they are compatible with versions post Max7 (meaning it even runs with Max 2012) and even added some minor functions to it. It's somewhere on the forums. "Started" means it's not fully polished and thoroughly tested, but all the basic functions should work just fine now.
