Idea: 3D Sniper Scope [Not an image]
I already have rifles with 3D iron sights, and then I thought about making a sniper scope with the cross reticule being part of the weapon's mesh instead of an image. It would make sniping so much more realistic, since the scope would move when running. I simply want some feedback on what you all think of the idea.
Also, an ACOG scope can be made, since there can be transparent textures. The little up-arrow shaped crosshair can be 50% transparent, but I'm mainly aiming for a "+" shaped sight that normal scopes have. I'd like some ideas on how to do this...

It's the "old" version, we should have a 2C version right now (with the scope probably).
anyways it's a nice idea just try to make the scope and you can use a transparent texture for the crosshair then you just have to animate it and that's all.

I made one for my Type 5 Sniper. I actually didn't use any transparency at all; I used a hollow hole to look through and a skinny plus-sign (+) shape for the retucule.

If you can make 3d reticles with alpha skins, you could do an ironsight much more realistic by having some blurr on the post and the rear sight. Something like this:

Doing so would mean that the rear sight would always be blurry. That'd suck. I'd rather have nonblurry iron sights.

I dont know too much about modelling in bf42, but i think you could do a fast animation frame that switches the polygon face that is non blurry to a blurry polygon face when you get the gun up for aiming. If the engine is capable, you could also use a skin animation to change the alpha properties when you get the gun up.
