Gmax settings and texturing

Post by Vilespring »

So, now that I'm making meshes now in Gmax, I want to know how to highlight the face I have selected, and how to make it obvious I've already assigned it a material.

I would also like a texturing tutorial and links to tools to get me started! :)
Thanks in advance.
A picture is worth a thousand words, but takes up three thousand times the memory.

I'm not that familiar with GMax, so I'm not sure what changed between it and 3ds Max, but ...

In your Modify tab, click the plus next to Editable Mesh (or Editable Poly, whichever you use) and click on Polygon. The faces you select will now turn red (by default).

In the Material editor, you should be able to change the colors of any material you assign that does not have a .bmp attached. So you can color code you mats and you will know what material you have assigned to what face.

By default I think in Max, the color coding of materials gets disabled for the entire mesh if even one texture material gets assigned to the mesh. Not just a single material. :(
