i was wondering which one of is more mod-friendly and whether porting mods between them is easy or not. And more importantly, if modding for bf2 is as easy as modding for bf1942 and if there are enough modding tools available

For what i understand bf2 uses a .con file system similar to bf1942 but i dont know if it's as flexible.

BF1942 is ... a lot more moddable. It also has a lot more modding tools.
[By what knowledge I have about it.]

Actually, BF2 has more possibilities, because BF2 allows a good range of python modding (thus it allows altering gameplay code, something never was possible in BF42). Most of the code stuff is very similar in both games, with BF2 offering a more refined and expanded base. Plus, you get the BF2Editor, which actually is one of the few prime examples of community-given modding tools (together with Crysis Sandbox and the Unreal Development Kit). You really can do A LOT with far less effort in BF2 than in BF42. Just see what the "big mods" like FH2 and especially Project reality have achieved with their python codes. Lots of very unique stuff.
