What I'm trying to do is delete the red dot sight off of my 870 shotgun so that I can addTemplate a scope to it using the SimpleObject method. So I intend to leave the rail empty and simply delete the red dot reflex sight.
What happens is the program crashes during the saving process. It seems to be generating the LODs when it crashes. I have tried to save it after doing a few different things such as manually updating the material IDs but I get the same result. The model is too simple to take up too much RAM as far as I know. I've never had saving issues in the past because this is the third version of my 870 that I saved. But in all three versions I didn't edit the geometries, they just use a different texture.
Here's a video, 1080p is available:

Re: 3DS Max 7 Crashing During Save (Video)
you don't appear to actually select any model/LOD for export in the tools..
Re: 3DS Max 7 Crashing During Save (Video)
Do you mean when I was exporting the model, I didn't use "Add LOD" and add the objects into that little box/list? I didn't have to do that (I never had to), I usually use "Use Object Names For Export" option when exporting. And just to make sure, I just tried to manually add the object to the list before exporting, but the program still crashed.
I could be reading your post wrong though...

Re: 3DS Max 7 Crashing During Save (Video)
ahh, yeah I have never used the 'use object names..'
so perhaps not the issue. :/

Re: 3DS Max 7 Crashing During Save (Video)
I fixed the problem.
Here is my solution:
Apparently, it was a problem with the 3D model itself, not what I was doing to save the model. So what I did was plugged in my external hard drive that has a backup of the original model (before I made it work in Battlefield when it was still a ".MAX" file) and used that model. I did the editing I wanted to do before converting it for Battlefield. I also had to resize and rotate the model because it was 20+ times larger than Battlefield size and was turned around 180 degrees. I then had to convert the materials to use Battlefield materials.
You don't have to create the BBox. 3DS Max will create it for you with the correct name after you export your model.
One main thing I noticed: This new model is 168 bytes in size, and my previous models [from before] are 696 bytes. What makes them so large? I also noticed them having a lot more vertices then this new version of the same model? There seems to be three or four vertices on the same exact dot (it should only be one vertex with multiple edges/faces attached to it). Is there a way to "weld" all of those vertices together like they should be? It seems like each face was unwelded, which could explain the file being 6 times larger than my new file. I know how to weld one vertex at a time, but is there a way to do all of them at once?
