Menu/Background Music: Best Audio Format?

What is the best audio encoding/format for menu music and map background music?
I'm talking about 44100 Hz, 22050 Hz, or 11025 Hz, etc. And if I should use Mono instead of Stereo tracks.
Sometimes I hear it sputter (little pops of no sound) but I'm using a BIK file at 44100 Hz with Stereo.

I think I've been using 44kHz and 16-bit Stereo. I've never had issues with it. Could vary by computer. Perhaps you got a low quality sound card?

It's definitely not my hardware causing the issue.
When I save a WAV file, the attribute should be "PCM Signed 16-bit" right?
I'm using GoldWave for my audio editing.

Oh you are converting to WAV format? Thought you were making Bink (Bik) files. As for wav files, BF1942 can be picky with which program you use. I tend to use 44kHz PCM (uncompressed) format. 8-bit. Not sure if 16-bit is an option for wav files or not. The program I use doesn't have the option to output as those. If the WAV file is being used ingame, it's best to save it as mono. Stereo is typically used as the global environment sound or for FPS sounds like engines and handweapons in first person view.

I'm sorry for not explaining my problem correctly. My fault.
I make a WAV file using those setting then convert it to a BIK file to use in the game. I said that just in case the WAV file is the cause of any problems.
