Battlefield 1942 terrain questions

Anyone that can take some small amount of their time to explain to me how the terrain in Battlefield 1942 works. I have the following questions
.
1 : What is the possible sizes of the height maps?
2 : From what i understand the editor creates one huge texture that is then split into smaller textures that are used by the game. So each small texture bit is then used on a part of the terrain?
3 : When the game is running some form of detail texture is blended with the terrain that is close by?
