Noob question: How hard to replace player models?

Hi modders!
I'm more of a designer than coder and have some 3d models I'd like to replace the ingame players with. Is this possible and if so which tool should I use? I did see the great tools download and breakdown thread, but I really am a complete noob and I'm not sure which tool would let me just replace the models.. is it relatively easy? I can tweak my models no problem, but the tools intimidate me!
