Editor 42: Textures with transparency?

Post by Swaffy »

I spent an hour playing around with textures (provided by f00k, thanks dude), including road textures. But sometimes, I didn't want the texturing on the side of the road, sometimes I want to paint just the part where the vehicle's wheels would go (the ground path that wheels make). So I tried making a PNG image to use, but it ended up painting black where the transparency was. This was the same when I tried a DDS image. This would work well if, for example, the side of the road didn't match up with the texture already on the map. It would be nice just to paint the wheel path.

Is there a way to use a texture in Ed 42 that has transparency?

certainly not aware of any transparency. road / tyre tracks in ed42 are basically a slow process of using the road tool on a very narrow setting then re-covering the ground again a few times.

Some lines / splines in photoshop or max would provide a faster route to achieve this though. use tgamerge to build a single terrain texture then yeah, could try using one of the above. this is for sure how Dice achieved the look.

That's a great idea. I have Photoshop CS5, I can try that. I have also used TGA Merge.
