I've always wanted to do this for Battlefield 1942. You know in Battlefield 2 Special Forces they have this grappling hook hand weapon you can use to climb mountain faces? Well I'd like to replicate that in Battlefield 1942. My original idea was to convert one of the ladder objects into a FireArm while making it retain it's ladder capabilities.
You could then "throw" a ladder object to climb over obstacles in the battlefield. I would change the geometry of the ladder object to that of a rope with a grappling hook at one end of the rope. The "throw" animation of the object would be replaced with a throw animation of the soldier throwing a rope upwards (1p and 3p).
Think it could be done?

Re: My attempt at making a grappling hook for Battlefield 19
I would use a projectile that spawns a rope when it hit the object. I would make the hook and the rope would extend to whatever length. I see it being weird if stuck to a vehicle. I see that failing in multiplayer though, but it's when I would do.
A picture is worth a thousand words, but takes up three thousand times the memory.
