Aww, sweet. That's what I was looking for.
I'll go test it right now.

Okay, they have more traction now that I multiplied their resistance by 4. But now the vehicles are a lot slower.
Is that because I made the Default material have 4 times the resistance? What's causing this issue?

Did you also adjust the wheel material resistance? You may also try reducing the friction of the ground materials.

I have cameras in your head!
Re: Giving ground vehicles more traction
Can you explain to me what the friction line does?
Actually, can you explain these three?
I thought resistance and friction was the same. But I only changed the resistance before, never touching the other two.
Actually, can you explain these three?
Code: Select all
MaterialManager.materialFriction 1.0
MaterialManager.materialElasticity 0
MaterialManager.materialResistance 0.02

got a bit tired once on a little hill there it was allmost impossible to go over so you had to run all the way around it. i then turned up the friction for grass a notch and voila one could run over the hill where there was grass no problem.
sideeffects tho that i didnt tought of from start, #snipers could climb higher up in the mountains finding new spots to snipe from (shanged the gameplay quite a lot), #with the german bmw motorcycle when you turned hard on gras it flipped over if driving fast.
i guess it a bit as grip between different materials, try it out and see what you think

Friction ... friction ... alright. Be back soon. Well, after I get home from college.

Re: Giving ground vehicles more traction
I'm not quite sure the exact difference between resistance and the friction settings.
Seems resistance has a greater impact then friction. For example, I was able to get C4 to stop falling out of the truck beds in DC (for the most part anyway) by increasing that projectile's resistance value.
The Elasticity is easy. That's basically the "bouncyness" the material has. It controls how much inertia is reflected when an object hits something. For example I have set it to 3+ on my Koopa shells in my Mario Kart mod so that they bounce when they hit walls. If it was set to zero, then the shells would hit a wall and stop dead in it's tracks with little to no rebound. My soccer balls in the BFH mod also use this code so the ball will bounce...like a ball.

Re: Giving ground vehicles more traction
I figured it out. Here:
^ More traction. THe higher the number, the less "slideyness."
^ More bouncyness.
^ More traction, but lower speeds. It's like vehicles dragging a giant weight behind them. A vehicle's tire will resist movement on the material, depending on the number set.
Code: Select all
MaterialManager.materialFriction 1.0
Code: Select all
MaterialManager.materialElasticity 0

MaterialManager.materialResistance 0.02
